PUBLIC DEBATE WITH THE MEDIA: Prospects for renewable energy sources until 2020 - Does Serbia have the capacity to achieve the desired goal

For the opening of the European Sustainable Energy Week EUSEW, CEDEF organized a Public Debate with the media "Prospects for renewable energy sources until 2020 – does Serbia have capacity to achieve the desired goal". The Public Debate was organized under the institutional auspices of the Ministry of Mining and Energy and the Agency for Environmental Protection, and in cooperation with the Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS) and the Independent Association of Journalists Serbia (NUNS). Serbia has a strong commitment to achieve the energy goals for 2020 and has increased the share of renewable energy sources of the total energy consumption from 21.2 to 27%.

The participants pointed out that Serbia has the capacity to meet the desired percentage of renewable energy sources of the total energy consumption by 2020, but Serbia has a large delay in achieving this goal. For example, Igor Korać, deputy director of Department of Energy, NIS, stated that this company complies with international trends and recommendations concerning sustainable development, energy efficiency and environmental protection, and in this way helps Serbia to achieve the stated requirements.
