As the need for energy is rising at a global level there is an ever bigger challenge to secure sufficient quantities of energy sources. Energy security of a region or economy is possible to achieve via security in delivery and security in energy supply. Energy security, economic development and efficiency of environmental protection have long been the basic and mutually connected objectives of national economies. In order to provide economic and social growth and development with preservation of the environment it is necessary to continuously harmonise four basic elements of energy matrix – need for energy, security supply, energy efficiency and fighting climate change, all aiming at achieving sustainable development.
